“I experiment with different mediums: oil, acrylic and mixed media techniques. I tend to use abstract forms with recurring themes. If I had to categorize my artwork I would describe it as abstract expressionism with elements of symbolism. I have never set out to pursue a particular artistic style but have instead allowed curiosity to lead the way.” - Kjerstad
BLOCK PRINTS
“I have been working with versions of block printing for about 25 years. I am fascinated by the long history of the medium and the ability it affords to achieve bold and raw expression.
For a long time I’ve been drawn to the possibilities of combining my writing with my imagery. My most recent prints are a result of that endeavor.
I create only small editions of each block I carve. These prints have similar imagery but often vary significantly because I like to experiment with layering different colors and use a variety of painting techniques. Each print is created one at a time and hand painted.” - Kjerstad
